Our History
Nestled among the rolling green hills of Central Texas, Salado has always been one-of-a-kind. Home to one of the first co-ed colleges in the United States and a stop on the historic Chisholm Trail, Salado has been inspiring people for generations. Today, it is a haven for world-class artists, full of historic bed and breakfasts, restaurants, and endless things to discover.
In Salado, you can learn how to create art, stay in historic inns, shop specialty boutiques, listen to live music, take in the sights along Main Street, and savor a fantastic meal. Centrally located along I-35, you are invited to come and enjoy the independent spirit and friendly small-town charm that is the Village of Salado.
Salado Historical Society
The mission of the Salado Historical Society is “To locate, educate, and preserve the history and
the historical integrity of the Village of Salado.” This dedicated group continues to research and
preserve the history of the area and of the families who helped build this community. Their website contains the list of historical sites and information.

Salado Museum and College Park
The Salado Museum and College Park was established to preserve and promote the pioneer history of Salado and the diverse nationalities that settled the area. College Park, just south of the museum, is the location of the ruins and grounds of historic Salado College.

The Arts
From regional treasures to internationally recognized artists, Salado is home to potters, painters, sculptors, glassblowers, writers, musicians, actors, and more. Many of Salado’s artists offer you the chance to experience their craft and create your own art to take home.
Salado Sculpture Garden
The vision of the Public Arts League of Salado and Keep Salado Beautiful, the Salado Sculpture Garden makes fine art accessible to everyone. The garden is situated in a lovely natural landscape and connected by walkways with seating throughout the area.

Salado Cultural Arts District
Designated in 2017 as an Arts and Culture District by the Texas Commission for the Arts in 2017, the district’s mission is to support and promote excellence in the arts and culture of Salado. As you travel around Salado you will fi nd a variety of public art on display, including the iconic “Sirena and the Magical Catfish” on the banks of the creek.

Tablerock Festival of Salado
Take in an outdoor performance of a variety of productions throughout the year. Tablerock Amphitheater hosts poetry events, recitals, a variety of plays and musicals, and is the home of “Salado Legends.” This original, one-of-a-kind, show has been entered into the Library of Congress, and has been performed every summer for over 28 years.

Royal Street District
Your trip to the south side of Salado Creek features art studios, jewelry makers, a brewery, several restaurants and food trucks, a taproom, boutiques, art studios, and frequent live music. Don’t miss the Royal Street Art Walk (RAW), held on the fourth Friday of the month from March to October, with late night shopping and special events.
